This destination wedding was at Letchworth State Park in Castile, NY. I say destination because it was about two hours from where we are located.
The ceremony and reception were both held at the Glen Iris Inn. This cute little bed and breakfast is located right in the heart of the park. The bride and groom had a cabin they rented to stay in. Some of the guests rented rooms right at the Inn. The ceremony took place outside of the building. Then a tent was set up off to the side for the reception.
This image was taken at the end of the night. The couple really wanted the waterfall in a photo. We took some earlier in the day, but wanted to created something really magical for the newlyweds.
This was a tough image to get too. This little path was located below the Inn. To get the angle Neal really wanted, he had to take the shot from the upper level. That meant, I was going below with the couple for direction and lighting. The hard part was, it was so dark out, I could not see Neal above. And I could not hear him relaying directions. Cell phone reception was non existent, so I kept making adjustments on my own that I thought had to be done. Neal was trying to use his phone flash light to light himself up to use hand gestures. That didn't work out so well. But, after few minutes, Neal was running down the path saying he got the shot! Thank god!
The waterfall is actually not that close to the overlook. It is located pretty far back. Neal used a two hundred millimeter lens to pull the falls closer to the couple. If he didn't use that, the falls would not show up in the image. For lighting, we placed a flash right behind the couple. We had to go pretty high power to light up everything. It was so dark. Then we used another light to light the front of them.
This was a logistically complicated image. We were so happy it turned out exactly how we wanted!
